Join the certificate program after you have taken—or while you’re taking—PACE-C 250, as well as one other course/elective that counts toward the program (for a minimum of 5 credits).

Do so as soon as you can so you’ll have as much time as possible to take advantage of special opportunities available to PACE students.

Take C 250, Q 296, C 200/C 440, plus two electives during your first two years in the program. You should choose electives based on your interests, or as a way to explore possible majors or minors.

You may complete up to four electives as soon as you wish.

The C 200 Issue Forum is a 1 credit hour class that takes place on a Saturday each spring and fall semester. Any IU Bloomington student may participate in the forum, and you can enroll in C 200 during spring registration. Learn more on the Issue Forum page, or contact pace@indiana.edu for more information.

Many PACE students will enroll in the PACE-C 440 Forum Discussion Leader course in order to be trained to moderate small group discussions at the Issue Forum.

Plan to do your internship after you’ve completed C 250 and Q 296, and at least two electives that count toward the PACE certificate. (There are special considerations for SWK, SPEA, and INFO students.) Taking Q 296 early in the program will prepare you for the internship.

Contact the PACE associate director to discuss how you can structure an experience that aligns with your goals and interests. You will receive mentoring throughout the process. Internships can take place during a semester or the summer.

The PACE capstone seminar (C 450) is a senior-year course that brings everything together in the program. You will need to complete all of the other PACE requirements before enrolling in the capstone seminar. Both the capstone seminar (C 450) and the Issue Forum (C 200/C 440) are only offered in the spring semester. Be sure to enroll in the Issue Forum (C 200 or C 440) before your senior year and before the capstone seminar (C 450).
